A Prayer for the Hours of the Day

Insert the appropriate middle verse depending on the time of day.

A Prayer for the Hours of the Day.
Being a microcosm of the Seasons and the Wheel-Year.

By Faith the fire is kindled, through Faith gifts are offered up.
We celebrate with praises Faith upon the height of happiness.
Faith in the early morning, Faith at noonday will we invocate,
Faith at the setting of the Sun. O Faith, endow us with belief.
(Rg Veda, Book 10, Hymn CLI)

At Dawn we sing our praises for the ambivalent Queen,
Reluctant She rises, abundant She glows.
The Gates thrown open by Her Warrior-Maids,
She comes to us in splendour and beauty.

At Noon we sing our praises for the bountiful Earth,
Meadows and forests filled with Her wonder.
Balancing life and death in her ever-turning cycles,
She embraces us with warmth and ancient love.

At Dusk we sing our praises for the Phantom Queen,
Darkness spreads outwards like Her wings.
Emerging from the hidden places in the shadows,
She calls to us with starkness and truth.

At Night we sing our praises for the Queen of the Stars,
In Her pole-star bower She looks down on us.
The Land spins below Her, and all is made apparent,
She watches us with clear sight and wisdom.

By Faith the fire is kindled, through Faith gifts are offered up.
We celebrate with praises Faith upon the height of happiness.
