Because of some spirited discussion amongst a small group of ADF folk, here are my current daily prayers. Some contain UPG, or Grove-specific references:
MORNING.
Eithne.
High above us, your unwavering light shines.
Looking to you, I remember my place in the world.
Dawn. [Rg Veda, Book VII, Hymn LXXX.]
The priests are the first awakened
to welcome Dawn with their songs and praises,
Who makes surrounding regions part asunder,
and shows apparent all existing creatures.
Giving fresh life when she has hid the darkness,
this Dawn has wakened there with new-born lustre.
Youthful and unrestrained she comes forward:
she has turned thoughts to Sun and fire and worship.
May blessed Mornings shine on us for ever,
with wealth of kine, of horses, and of heroes,
Streaming with all abundance, pouring fatness.
Preserve us evermore, O Gods, with blessings.
Lighting the Hearthfire. [Based on Carmina Gadelica §82].
I will kindle the hearthfire
in the presence of all the Kindreds:
The Nature Spirits of life and land,
The Ancestors who have gone before,
And the Shining Ones, eldest and bright.
I will kindle the hearthfire
In my home and in my heart,
A flame of love to all beings,
Shared in kindness and strength.
I will kindle the hearthfire
As Brighid would:
The blessings of Brighid be on the house,
Be on the fire,
Be on the household all.
The Lorica of the Grove.
I arise today in the brightness of the three Dancing Lights:
the warmth of my kin’s hearthfires,
the sparkling stars in the sky,
and the flames that warm the inner cauldrons.
I arise today, under the watch of the Gods of the Grove:
the Earth Mother who bore us,
Brighid who inspires us,
Lugh who protects us,
An Dagda who teaches us,
An Cailleach who tempers us,
and Manannán mac Lir who guides us.
I arise today,
on the Land where we are nourished,
near the Sea of the unknown,
under the Order of the Gods in the Sky.
I arise today,
and ask for the blessings of the Gods
on my self and my kin,
this day and every day.
